We are now closed for submissions.
Please note that no work submitted after the 12th of December 2018 will be read. We will be opening our next submissions window in Spring 2019.

Here at New Island Books we love to read. We love stories – all stories – gorgeous prose, challenging prose and blow-your-face-off weird prose. Most of all we love everything new. The brave, the never-before-tried, the untested, the bewildering.
We’re always on the lookout for brilliant stories, startling prose and quality non-fiction, and you are welcome to send us your manuscript for consideration.
We publish award-winning crime fiction, literary fiction, experimental fiction, short stories and poetry from authors with diverse backgrounds and national origin. The same goes for our award-winning non-fiction – we love powerful memoir/autobiography and essays, Irish interest history and biography.
- We do not publish children’s or young adult books (But Little Island do – find them here).
- We will not accept submissions of books that have been previously self-published, or sequels to books that have previously been self-published.
- As much as we would like to, we cannot enter into correspondence on submissions, or individual work.
- We do not accept or return posted manuscripts.
We firmly believe that good writing is down to re-writing. As such, New Island recommends that you don’t send us the first draft of your work. Once you’ve wrought your original draft into the best form you can on your own, that’s when you should hit send.
We have an open submission policy and we’re proud of it. You don’t need to have an agent – but submissions from agents are also welcome. We actively encourage submissions from women, BAME, disabled, working class and LGBT writers. Please keep in mind that we are a small but sturdy independent press who publish 20-30 books per year. We are unable to respond to submissions quickly, but we will respond to them – if they follow the guidelines below.
