Dr John Walsh is an academic researcher with the Centre for Contemporary Irish History, Department of History, Trinity College Dublin. He also lectures with the School of Education, TCD. Dr Walsh’s research interests include the history of Irish education, Church-State relations in modern Ireland, European integration in the late 20th century and the influence of international organisations on social change in post-war Europe. His book on Irish education, The Politics of Expansion: a study of educational policy in the Republic of Ireland 1957-72, was published by Manchester University Press in 2009. His other publications include ‘The politics of educational expansion’ in Gary Murphy and Brian Girvin (eds.), The Lemass Era (Dublin, 2005).
